Hi Guys,
Just saw this on FB
from Bandit’s daughter….not sure of its validity:
“Last night my
sisters and I were at a "medium" with a large group to see if our
sister Cass would come thru. She did not and we know why? She was with our Dad - David
de Castro who passed away last night. Dad, I will miss you and love you always!”
After a lifetime of
involvement with the world of calypso music and spreading of appreciation for
our national instrument, the steel drum, our dear brother, David De Castro,
(MSB 1950-1955) the Calypso Bandit. Bandit has now gone home to be with his
Lord and Maker.
Bandit had apparently
travelled to Mexico and returned a week ago, feeling very weak and lethargic.
He was treated for his condition, according to his daughter, Patricia, with
whom I spoke today, but it was found this morning that he had passed away last
night. The family, of course, is in a state of shock, and have asked for our
prayers for his soul.
Bandit had the
distinction of beginning the very first school steel band in the world - our
very own Abbey School Steel Band. I have some pictures of the band jumping up
around the school grounds, but I can’t find them at the moment. Perhaps someone
else might also have them and can contribute them for us.
He was also crowned
(in 1954??) as the First Calypso King of Canada, when he was crowned with a
paper crown at the then Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto.
Bandit also claimed
that he was the first to recognize the talents of a young Emile Straker, who
went on, eventually to become the lead singer and a guitarist with the Barbados
Merrymen.
Bandit showed his
love for his friends from our old school when he attended a roti night here in
Ajax, Ontario. He regaled us with some old favourites, singing to his cuatro
music. Here are a few pictures of that
evening, featuring the one and only Calypso Bandit.
May he rest in peace,
forever.
Goodbye, Bandit. We’ll miss you, old man.
Nigel

Obituary
DAVID NOEL DE
CASTRO, 80, "The Bandit" was a musician who always lived life to the
fullest and never missed a 'Carnival'. He leaves us a message of "Peace
and Love" and died quietly on May 5th, 2016, with his wife, Jenny by his
side.
Born in Trinidad, he
was the son of the late, Lucille Wiles and Virgil De Castro, brother of Delano
(deceased). The first Calypso King of Canada, his legacy lives on through his 6
children, Patricia, Mercedez, Cassandra (deceased), Charmaine, Duane, Ryan, and
spouses; 14 loving grandchildren and his many dear friends. Although he is
gone, his music continues to touch our hearts. Dearly missed, we celebrate his
life at St. Paul's Catholic Church on Wed. May 11 at 11:00am

Thank you Sir Kazim
for your positive input at all times.
I praise Holy Cross
for their accomplishments however as stated is still an active school.
These intentions are
along the lines of how some of the ideas Sir Jon Golding had in his Restoration
Project.
Sir Kazim unless you
have some inside information, that we are not aware off, we have no indication
yet, that this is the wishes of the Mount community.
We are still waiting
for a green light to an invitation for a presentation.
As Sir Nigel Boos
said, we are just waiting for a sign of acknowledgement so no one waste their
time.
We have Sir Ladislao
Kertesz & Sir Don ID Mitch. at the head of our realm should such a meeting
be called, we will then send the right people for this
